what love looks like
May 28, 2026
I recently posted a painting and wrote as the caption: Doing what you LOVE one thing at a time IS YOU BEING YOU and CREATES a Life made of Love.
We gotta EMBRACE what we LOVE and I LOVE talking about BEing Who We ARE!! You may have noticed :).
It is truly What’s Natural but it is not easy because in my experience, society/culture/family etc. encourages us AWAY from what’s natural to us.
Years ago I heard a story about a 2-year-old who would not eat his chicken. His parents, fed up, forced him to eat his chicken. Well, don’t you know, this kid had a reaction and when they took him to the ER, turns out he was ALLERGIC to chicken!
This is only one example of zillions! I’m sure you have many of your own. It really is insidious, the encouragement and even expectation that others have for us and we have of our own Selves to NOT BE WHO WE ARE.
The ways are subtle. I was talking with my daughter’s therapist several years ago and I mentioned being who you are. He said, but they don’t even know who they are yet.
This guy thought I was saying people should know who they are and then be that. No. Actually the exact opposite.
What Being Who You Are means to me is being/doing what is true moment to moment to your greatest ability. It doesn’t mean we already know who we are.
Because we are meant to GROW INTO who we ARE. As we BE TRUE, moment to moment, we literally GROW MORE TRUE i.e. BE WHO WE ARE more deeply.
And let me tell you it FEELS GOOD. It FEELS GOOD to be who I am. And when I am not being true or not being who I am, it does not feel good.
This is not to say that there are not uncomfortable moments … THERE ARE!
Only I can do this for me. Only you can do this for you. Being Who I am is my greatest responsibility.
If I find myself wondering why others are doing such and such, I reel myself back in and ask, what’s true for YOU, Ellen? What do you WANT? Is there something YOU need to do?
What does LOVE look like right NOW?
