OH!! YOU MEAN I DON’T HAVE TO STAY MARRIED?!!

Catholicism was a central figure in my life growing up. I carried its beliefs and constructs as if they were my own.

When I was 15, my then boyfriend whispered to me, I want to go all the way with you. After saying, WHAT?!, several times and him repeating it several times, I finally stammered, I can’t, it’s a SIN!

Fast-forward about 25 years and my husband and I were having a very difficult time that lasted a long time. At some point, I remember having an epiphany. I’d been carrying a belief that I had to stay married. And in that moment, I became aware that I had a choice.

At first it was like Satan rolled up on his motorcycle. But not too many moments later I recognized the absurdity of this very Catholic idea.

Clinging to the belief that one does not get divorced, I felt restricted. Opening to the idea that I have complete agency, I felt free.

This Blissing is not about staying married. Nor is it about getting divorced or Catholicism.

It is about making room for the OPENINGS. You are not a static being. You are dynamic. And as a dynamic being, you get to ebb and flow. You get to change your mind.

My husband and I are still married and about to celebrate 29 years. And it’s not because I thought I HAD to stay married. It’s because I realized I had a CHOICE.

You get to CHOOSE what you believe, what you don’t and what you are not sure about.

It’s alllllll YOU coming to BE.
