CAN’T YOU JUST BE A NORMAL MOM?
Can’t you just be a normal mom?
One of my kids has said this to me more than once and I’m pretty sure the other one has thought it several times.
My answer? No.
I tell them I was born to be Ellen. And as Ellen, I happen to be your mom. I will be your mom as only I, Ellen, can be.
It’s not always that I’ve been so confident being me. Not too long ago I would have apologized for not being a “normal” mom and wonder to myself how I might go about that.
In order to be who I am fully, I’ve had to live my way out of a false paradigm.
The old paradigm included *ideas* about what a good mom was and was not. The people with whom I surrounded myself carried these ideas and applied them to themselves and to me.
I don’t carry these ideas anymore. And because I do not carry them for me, I don’t carry ideas about what a *good* daughter is or a *good* son is. Or for that matter a *good* friend or a *good* husband.
Everyone gets to be who they came to here to be. I get to be every inch of me and you get to be every inch of you.
We get to Live in and as our FULL GLORY.
