ART-IS-TRY

3/12/2026

I walk past this one apartment building every day. Recently, on one of those days, I noticed the name of it: Artistry. I’d seen the name before, but on this day, I REALly noticed it. What I saw was:

ART-IS-TRY

It struck me. I felt how true that was. Artistry is the expression of one’s art. If you look at one’s BEing, as art, then every person BEing who they are is their artistry. Or. ART-IS-TRY.

My sense of the word Try, in ART-IS-TRY, isn’t like trying in the traditional sense. It’s the courage to BE all of who you ARE. Whether tidy or messy, pretty or ugly, filtered or unfiltered, polite or uncouth.

I’ll tell you that the first 40ish years of my life I did not do this. In fact, I took quite a bit of pride in the fact that I was even-keeled.

I see things differently now. I was not even-keeled. Not one little bit. I was holding it together, barely breathing and worrying constantly about when the proverbial shoe would drop.

All of my holding in was repression of my Artistry. Basically I lived in a state of fear. I was afraid to be me fully.

I’d gotten very used to holding fear within my body. So much so, that it seemed normal, natural, even. I can assure you, fear is not my or your natural state.

Each day you can be you, to the greatest extent that you can be you, fear releases its grip and you BECOME who you’ve been all along: LOVE.
